TN 032: Using an AVEVA .xml License File with AVEVA Reports

AVEVA Reports for Operations software version 2020 R2 supports AVEVA’s Activated Licensing mechanism – i.e., licensed using AVEVA’s .xml license files.  The AVEVA Enterprise License Manager v3.7 (or newer) is required for AVEVA Reports to recognize a license file.

A copy of the AVEVA Enterprise License Manager v3.7 is included (but not installed, by default) with the AVEVA Reports installation.  To install the AVEVA Enterprise License Manager v3.7, open Windows Explorer and browse to the \ODS\AVEVA Reports\Utilities\ folder, where you will find the file AELicensingStandalone-v3.7.zip.  Unzip and run the included setup file.  Accept the defaults, and when installed, add and activate the license file provided by your AVEVA distributor. Once installed, you can choose to load and activate the AVEVA Reports license locally, or on an AVEVA License Server.  If installed on a License Server, make sure to use the local AVEVA License Manager to point to the license running on the License Server.

To verify that AVEVA Reports recognizes the license, open AVEVA Reports Studio, and click Help > About AVEVA Reports for Operations, where you should then see a dialog box indicating an AVEVA-issued license is being used:

Once verified, please ensure to reload the project in the Runtime if the project was previously running.

Note:

  • Make sure that the feature lines for AVEVA Reports in the license are for the version of AVEVA Reports you are using (or later) and not an earlier version – you can verify that in the Enterprise License Manager. Select your license in the License Summary section and click Details.

  • Whether installing the license locally or on a License Server, the Enterprise License Manager must be installed on the local AVEVA Reports machine, and configured accordingly

  • Please consult the AVEVA Licensing Guide, or your AVEVA distributor, for more information on using the Enterprise License Manager.
